The Story Behind Julia Shelehov Glass Art

My name is Julia Shelehov, I am a glass-oriented artist, born in Odessa, Ukraine, and raised in Israel since the age of six. I create glass-blown art infused with elements of horror, philosophy, grotesque, fantasy, trauma, and nature, often incorporating metal and copper into my pieces.Glass has many faces; it can be delicate and beautiful, spiky and hurtful, mellow and flowy.

Combined with the strength of metal, my works reflect the balance between fragility and resilience — always trying to push the boundaries and see where they lay, and what lays beyond.

Through my art, I seek to explore the connections between diverse elements, crafting narratives that invite reflection on topics such as the complexities of the human mind; the scale between beauty and ugly; and more. Combining natural shapes with surreal and imaginative designs, I seek to illustrate the balance between chaos and order. My art isn't just about looking nice; it's an emotional journey — a space to reflect, connect, and understand strengths and vulnerabilities alike.
